The Chocolate Fudge Cafe

I don’t want to seem boring, talking about trade shows and what-not, but we just introduced our organic fudge to the world, (so to speak), at the Natural Products Expo in Las Vegas on July 18 and 19.  I believe I can honestly say that we were one of the “hits” of the show.  At least it seemed that way.  Folks kept coming back to our booth to try the fudge.  Friends were telling friends.  We hope we made the expo “sweet” for everyone.

    Excitement was in the air, that’s for sure.  There were a lot of really great companies and products there.  We were in the organic food section, which basically consisted of one row at this particular fair.  We understand that Expo West in Anaheim is about 8 times bigger than Las Vegas, which is the NPA’s national show, but I think we had just about all we could handle.  There was so much to learn from all the different people who came to our booth that it was a little overwhelming.  We met store buyers and food brokers and distrubutors and exhibitors and magazine editors.  Everyone was very helpful and wished us luck on our journey of getting our fudge to the public.  It seems that there is generally an open-hearted wish to help new companies get started, by all parties concerned.  That was encouraging.

The one thing we didn’t really run into was INVESTORS…although, that wasn’t why we went to the show.  However, we heard a few rumors about some “angels” out there who help companies like ours that are on the precipice of explosion.  So we took copious notes about those and will be following-up!  What we’re looking for is some angel money in the form of a low-interest loan…in case anybody out there is reading this   It will only be a matter of a short time before this company is doing a booming business.   Right now though, we just need to stay in the black while we grow.  If you know of anyone who would like to invest in Earth’s Sweet Pleasures and our mission, please contact us.

Not previously having any kind of organic food shipped via mail, I had no idea what to expect when I received the Rich Rainforest Dark fudge from Earth’s Sweet Pleasures. I was imagining that something like fudge would arrive on the soft side given the summer heat. Much to my surprise, it arrived in perfect condition – no melting; no stickiness. As a matter of fact, there was a “dry” element to it that a lot of fudge lacks. I mean that in a good way. Dry to the touch, but it could practically melt in your mouth – now that’s what fudge is supposed to be like if you ask me. In addition to being new to organic fudge at all, I’m also not a big chocolate lover. It’s rare that I actually want to eat chocolate, but I found that once I tasted this, I was loving it (and sharing it – it was equally loved all around). The fudge was so rich that it was ideal – it could satisfy any chocolate craving, but you wouldn’t find yourself mindlessly devouring it (something that rich has to be savored; not inhaled). In addition to loving the organic fudge itself, the way it’s packaged was wonderful (probably even moreso for the chocoholic types) – it’s broken down into individual one ounce cubes, so you always know exactly what you’re eating – something anyone counting calories would love. I don’t know what exactly makes this fudge so outstanding. All I know is that I fully intend to order more.

Earth’s Sweet Pleasures unveils world’s first gourmet organic chocolate fudge at Natural Products Association EXPO in Las Vegas

Earth’s Sweet Pleasures, the makers of Rich Rainforest Dark and Classic Semisweet fudge are debuting their products for the natural product community at the Natural Product Association’s Expo in Las Vegas July 17-19, 2008.   The owners, L. Hawk Cargo and Reonne Haslett, said they are very excited about this opportunity to unveil their old-fashioned, USDA organic products at the show.   “This will be the very first time that the natural store buyers will get to taste our fudge and decide if they want to carry it,” Reonne says. “We couldn’t be more happy and excited!”

Hawk has been making fudge for over 40 yrs., and when a friend of his suggested that he try making an organic recipe, Hawk took on the challenge, thinking it would take only a few months.  In actuality, it took over 18 months to get the creamy, rich recipe that people around Nevada City, California, have come to know and love. The Rich Rainforest Dark, which is 65% bittersweet, fair-trade chocolate from Dominican Republic and Peru is carried in 8 locations in this small No. Calif. town with a gold-mining past.  Hawk says, “The folks around here where we live have gotten used to buying our fudge in the local natural food stores and cafes. We get lots of comments on how delicious it is, so know we want to offer it to a broader community.” 

Hawk goes on to say that one of the main reasons he and wife Reonne wanted to take the company bigger is to help support the rainforest and the farmers who make the effort to go organic.  “We give a portion of our proceeds to humanitarian and socially-conscious organizations that we feel benefit the planet.  We also want to help transform the African cocoa market because we would like to use chocolate from the Ivory Coast and Ghana as well as South and Central American chocolate.  We are research organizations in our field that we can donate to once our company becomes profitable.”

Good News Comes In Three’s
 

At ESP things are always changing. If you haven’t been to our website for a while www.EarthsSweetPleasures.com, we’ve added a lot more content and made some attractive changes and improvements. So, what does that have to do with our Fudge Lovers. Well, that’s where the three changes come in.

First, we now have our new boxes (see below). It’s been a long time coming but the wait was worth it. They’re made from recycled materials and printed with soy-based ink. The new boxes will make an attractive gift for any occasion. And if you prefer, we can add a personalized custom label to our white box or select our gold wrapped box for that Special Occasion.  When you visit our website, click on the “Gifts” tab to view the white and gold box options.

Secondly, as we grow, we can purchase ingredients in larger quantities, which means lower prices. This adds up to new lower pricing (about 10%) for our Fudge Lover’s.

Thirdly, we’ve made arrangements with USPS and made them our default shipper. This means lower shipping costs. All USPS packages ship via Priority Mail (usually 2-3 business days). And for those who absolutely have to have it overnight, we offer FedEx.

Three Months in Business

As of June 13, 2008, we will have been officially in business for three months. It has been quite a journey. We have become educated on Internet marketing. It was a very quick learning curve, frustrating at times, but now we understand how the world-wide-web works!   Through our marketing efforts online, we have been able to get our search rankings up. If you enter “organic fudge” or “organic chocolate fudge” in the search engine box, Earth’s Sweet Pleasures will show-up on Page One on the left. This is VERY GOOD for such a short amount of time. You may see our blog related to fair-trade and organic chocolate, www.chocolatefudgecafe.com on the left as well. If you haven’t visited yet, check it out and leave your comments.
